"Gone"

She pressed the key into his palm and squeezed his fingers closed over it, squeezed until his knuckles ground hard and hurt. "I just wish I'd known that by 'the rest of our lives' you meant 'until I can get into JC's pants'. I wish you'd made that a little clearer for me, that's all."

"Brit," He sighed. "Fuck."

"Yhea, fuck." She tossed his hand away from her. "Fuck you, Justin, and fuck JC. Fuck all your fucking lies and all your fucking broken promises. You're a fucking liar, you know that? I wonder if JC knows. I should call and warn him, shouldn't I? I should tell him to watch the fuck out for you, cause you're just gonna fuck him over like you fucked me over."

"Shut up!" He broke, the calm he'd maintained throughout this final bout failing. "Shut your goddamn mouth! You have no idea what you're talking about."

"Oh, I don't?" America never got to see that nasty smirk, hear how biting her voice could get. "What's that saying? 'Once a cheater, always a cheater'? You're a cheater, Justin. "

Her only consolation was the hurt in his eyes. "No, I'm not."

"You are. You cheated on me, didn't you?" He didn't answer, and she didn't let it go. "Didn't you?"

"Brit, please…"

"Please what?" He couldn't look at her, and she shook her head in disgust. "You make me sick, you fucking jerk. You fucking liar."

He sighed, tilted his head to one side but still didn't meet her eyes. "I was hoping we could still…"

"Be friends?" She laughed harshly, a hiccup almost. "You want to be friends, you cheating son of a bitch?" She stepped up to him quickly, shoved him. "Huh?"

He stumbled back a little, looked at her now. "Hey, don't."

"Don't what?" She shoved him harder. "Don't what?" She stared him down until he looked away again, and then she turned, going back to her car that was idling in his driveway. "You got your key back, okay? You happy?"

He stepped forward, but not to catch her. He stopped a few feet away from her car and watched her put it in gear. "I really am sorry. I didn't plan this."

She slid on her sunglasses, flicking him off as she steered her car into the street. "Do me a favor and lose my number."

And then she was gone.
